Polk County: District Attorney

Daniel P. Steffen, District Attorney

Having been re-elected by the citizens of Polk County in November 2008, DA Steffen is serving his second term as Polk County District Attorney. DA Steffen is a 1998 graduate of William Mitchell School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Stephen C. Dorrance, Assistant District Attorney

Serving more than 20 years as Assistant District Attorney for Polk County, ADA Dorrance is a graduate of University of Montana Law School.

Daniel J. Tolan, Assistant District Attorney

Hired as a part-time Assistant District Attorney in January of 2009, ADA Tolan is a 1996 graduate of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul. Minnesota. He has served as a Special Prosecutor for Polk County since 2000. Prior to being hired as an Assistant District Attorney in Polk County, ADA Tolan worked in both Burnett and Washburn Counties as Assistant District Attorney since January 2007. Furthermore, Attorney Tolan maintains a private law practice in Luck.

Kenneth Sortedahl, Assistant District Attorney

ADA Sortedahl, is a graduate of University of Minnesota Law School and a Veteran of the US Army. He has been an Assistant District Attorney since 2004 for St. Croix County. He currently serves both Polk and St. Croix Counties pursuant to a position created for the prosecution of methamphetamine-related crimes.
