Dana is the county's first County Administrator. He started in this position on June 7, 2010. He has over 30 years experience with federal, state and local governments and has worked both as a county administrator and executive director of an association of counties. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in public administration. Dana reports directly to the Polk County Board of Supervisors. Some of his responsibilities include:
- Preparation and submission of the annual budget to the County Board.
- Implementation of all state and federal laws and county ordinances.
- Selection and supervision of non-elected Department Heads.
- Appointments to all boards and commissions where state law assigns that responsibility to the County Board.
- Informing the County Board of important issues on a regular basis and preparing an annual report on the state of the county.
- Helping position the county to receive state and federal grants and other outside funding sources.
- Planning and carrying out capital improvements.
- Collective bargaining between the county and county employees and unions.
- Maintaining a good relationship with other local and county governments, community organizations, schools, and state and federal agencies.
