Field Services includes the Investigation and the Patrol Divisions. It is supervised by the Field Services Captain, and includes four Sergeants (Three Patrol and one Investigative), four Investigators, and 16 Patrol Deputies.
The investigation division currently has five investigators, which includes the Investigative Sergeant. All six of the deputies assigned to these positions are General Investigators, but some of these deputies also specialize in areas including Narcotics/Illegal drugs, Juveniles, and Sensitive Crimes (Sexual Assault and Child Abuse).
The Patrol Division is probably the most visible division of the Sheriff's Department. The Men and Women assigned to Patrol are the Deputies that respond to calls for service from the public and who patrol the Highways and County roads within Polk County.
Many of the Patrol Deputies also have training or specialize in many other areas including:
- Accident reconstruction
- Arson Investigation
- Boating/Hunting/ATV/Snowmobile Safety
- Defense Tactics
- Domestic Abuse/child abuse
- Sexual Assault
- Computer crimes
- Drug investigations
- Evidence processing and collection
- Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.)
- Emergency Vehicle Operation
- Firearms Instruction/use of Specialized Weapons
